The City of Santa Fe Animal Services Division is comprised of one manager and six full-time Animal Services officers who investigate and respond to vicious or stray animals, nuisance complaints, injured or ill animals, reports of cruelty or neglect, as well as other animal-related issues. Animal Services officers are on duty seven days a week and are committed to public safety, animal welfare, and public education.

The City Animal Services office is located at 100 Caja del Rio Road at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society.

City of Santa Fe Animal Ordinances
All dogs, cats, and ferrets over the age of three (3) months must be vaccinated against rabies.
All animals within the city limits must be physically restrained at all times.
Voice command is not an acceptable form of restraint.

All animals are prohibited in Cathedral Park, except service animals.
All dogs and cats over the age of three (3) months must be licensed through the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society. www.sfhumanesociety.org/detail.cfm?PageID=40
All dogs and cats over the age of six (6) months must be spayed or neutered unless proper permits and licenses have been purchased from City Animal Services and the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society.
All animals must be provided with proper food, clean water, structurally sound shelter, shade, ventilation, necessary medical care, and basic grooming.
Confining Animals in or upon Motor Vehicles
Do not confine animals within a motor vehicle, especially in extreme weather conditions.
If animals are in truck beds they must be tethered and have shade, shelter, and water, as well as relief from hot surfaces.
Special Events on the Plaza
All animals are banned from the Plaza during the Fourth of July Pancake Breakfast, Spanish Market, Indian Market, Santa Fe Fiesta Labor Day Arts and Crafts Market, and Santa Fe Fiesta.
Service animals are exempt.
Pet owners must clean up after their animals and dispose of their waste properly.
Animals tearing trash or destroying others’ properties are also considered nuisances.
Animals are not to disturb the public peace unreasonably.
