The Solid Waste Division provides an integrated refuse and recycling management program with a priority on quality customer service and an emphasis on protecting the environment and the current and future health and safety of the public and staff.

There is no requirement to place garbage in plastic bags before depositing it in the refuse containers. However, the Solid Waste Division recommends that garbage be bagged in order to prevent spills.  If refuse is not bagged & it spills out of the refuse container, it will be the responsibility of the resident to clean it up.

Beginning the week of January 11, 2009 the City of Santa Fe will begin volume based billing for solid waste. Each residential customer is currently billed for one (1) 96 gallon container. A second container can be obtained for an additional $8.00 per month, or a smaller 64 gallon container for $6.00 per month. Extra bags will no longer be picked up unless they have a bag tag on them. Bag tags are $1.50 per tag and are sold in 5 tag sheets. Tags can be purchased at the water company at 801 W. San Mateo or at the cashier's office at city hall. For further information call 955-2200.

Recycling
The Solid Waste Division provides City-wide weekly recycling pickup.  Place materials for recycling pickup on the curb every week along with your refuse.  Please refer to Recycling Information for recycling guidelines.
